Punggol Mosque
Singapore
2012
The main concept is the expression of community uses and religious activities integrated within intersecting pure forms. A cuboid (the secular) intersects with a truncated cone (the sacred) that is inclined towards the Qiblat & Mecca.

A spacious circulation loggia wraps around the prayer hall, providing additional worship space. Above this, 3 levels of community spaces enclose the hall. On each level, light slots at the circumference admit daylight to the deeper spaces. The hall acts as a tall ‘heat-stack’ to partially natural ventilate. The facade is perforate to enable natural ventilation and filtered daylight to spaces.

The facade is a complex latticework of 3 interlacing geometric patterns abstracted from islamic motifs. Other abstract symbolism realised through form, colour, light and materials make up the essence of the building.
